Social Skills Group

Children will work on the following goal areas:

• Making friends
• Maintaining friendships
• Conversational skills
• Compromising with others
• Joining in play
• Turn taking, sharing and navigating the rules of play
• Asserting themselves in an appropriate way
• Understanding facial expressions and body language

For these children, social skills group therapy is an effective way of further developing these skills to promote an enjoyable school experience and to form and maintain relationships with their peers.

Emotions Group

This group is great for children who have difficulty:

• Understanding their own emotions
• Understanding the emotions of those around them
• Expressing emotions appropriately
• Showing empathy appropriately
• Keeping their emotional reactions in proportion
• Understanding facial expressions and body language

For these children, the emotions group is an effective way of learning these types of concepts in a step by step, easy way.

School Readiness Group

For some preschool children, learning skills needed for school entry can be tricky. Some children feel both excited and nervous about transitioning into prep from kinder and this is quite normal. To aim for a successful prep year, the following skills are best achieved before entering school:

• Listening skills
• Following instructions
• Getting along with other children of their own age
• Entering play with other children appropriately
• Expressing thoughts and ideas in simple sentences
• Understanding the concept of how words rhyme
